Get Out My News Feed and I’m Gonna Keep Running My Mouth

I used to think that defriending folks on FB was a little wack. I thought that just because someone disagrees with me doesn’t mean that we can’t be “friends.” And anyway — I love a healthy debate.

But now, I see that getting rid of folks who are consistently spraying toxic rhetoric in your news feed is really a form of self-care, something black folks typically aren’t “supposed” to do. I don’t have to allow toxicity in my life, even if it’s wrapped up in civil dialogue.

If you don’t see the racism in this video, we live in two different worlds.

If you can’t see why black parents are up in arms about the way our children are being treated — because they are children — then we live in two different worlds. If you see justifiable actions in a large MAN throwing a teenage GIRL on the ground and sitting on her back OR that same large MAN pointing a GUN at teenage BOYS simply to scare them, we live in two different worlds. Because if that girl died as a result of her head hitting the concrete, you would be saying it was justified. Because if that gun had gone off, killing one of those boys, you would be saying it was justified.

And, such so I’m clear, if you’re talking that, “Well, it’s two sides to every story” mess, I know you are already on the wrong side.

So, I’m done.

And best believe — I’m gonna keep running my mouth.
